Call for a postdoc position in Pavia on
"Calculus of Variations"
- The call opened on June 5, 2011, and one can apply up to July 15, 2011.
- The position is for one year, and it should start between October 2011 and January 2012.
- For any question concerning this postdoc position, as well as this ERC Starting Grant, please contact the official email address of the Grant, erc_pratelli AT unipv.it
- Here you can download the call in PDF format. The same file can be obtained from the official webpage of the University of Pavia.
- The call is written in Italian, but this page describes the (very simple) rules to apply, and in any case you are encouraged to write to the address erc_pratelli AT unipv.it for any doubt or explanation that you may need.
- To apply for the position, the candidates must send an application containing the following four things:
- A form containing all the needed data. A pre-filled form can be downloaded here in PDF format or in DOC format. The form is in Italian, but all the fields that you have to fill have been pre-filled with the english explanation in red italic (it is easy to notice it, since all the rest is in black roman...). In particular,
- Almost all the fields (such as surname, name, born in...) should be trivial for you to fill.
- Concerning the fiscal code, if you don't have an italian fiscal code, then leave the field blank.
- The field provincia (in the birthplace, or in the address) has to be filled only for italian cities, otherwise leave it blank.
- The field email is extremely important, since you will receive some important informations (see below) only by email.
- In the field graduation, please write the name of your degree (e.g., mathematics).
- If you don't have a Ph.D., leave the corresponding fields blank. However, if you are making your Ph.D. studies, you are encouraged to insert in your CV the name of your advisor, and -if you know it- the subject and (temptative) title of your thesis, and the possible date when you will obtain your Ph.D..
- If you already had, or if you are presently having, a post-doc position, you will have to fill, among other things, an S.S.D. field. If this position was not in Italy (since in that case you already know the corresponding S.S.D.), please write Mat/05 if your post-doc was inside Mathematical Analysis, otherwise leave the field blank.
- At the end, put the date an sign.
- Your CV in english or italian.
- The list of your publications, preferably together with one copy of each of them.
- A signed photocopy of your valid ID.
- The applications can be sent by regular mail, or by email.
- If you wish to use the regular mail, please address the application to <<Dipartimento di Matematica "F. Casorati" dell'Università degli Studi di Pavia, via Ferrata, 1 27100 Pavia (Italy)>>. On the envelope, please write also <<Post-doc 001, June 2011, " Calculus of Variations">>.
- If you prefer to use the email, please send only PDF files to the address erc_pratelli AT unipv.it .
- In both cases, please remember that July 15, 2011 is the deadline for applications. You will get a confirmation by email when your application is received.
- Within 30 days after the deadline, the director of the Math Department of Pavia will designate a committee for the decisions about the position.
- The committee will examine the applications, giving to each candidate a mark between 0 and 50. These marks will be published on the notice board of the math department, and the applicants will also be informed exclusively by email .
- Candidates with a mark lower than 35/50 will be excluded by the competition, while the other candidates will be invited by the committee for a talk (again, exclusively by email). The candidates will be invited at least 15 days before the talk. In order to help candidates to save their time and money, it is possible to give the talk at distance (e.g., via Skype). Candidates who want to do so, are requested to send an email to advise the committee at least three days before the talk.
- The committee will give to each candidate a mark between 0 and 50 for their talk (and the relative discussion). The candidates which will not present themselves to the talk, or which will get a mark lower than 35/50 for their talk, are excluded by the competition.
- The candidates having received at least 35/50 both in the preliminar examination and in the talk are eligible for the position. The committee will prepare the list of eligible candidates, which will be ranked with a mark between 70 and 100 adding the two marks. In the case when two candidates have exactly the same mark, the younger will have a higher position in the list. The ranked list of the eligible candidates will be published on the notice board of the math department, and the candidates will be informed by email.
- The first candidate in the list will receive an official communication concerning the result of the selection, and will be asked to accept or decline the position within 15 days.
- If the first candidate decides not to accept the position, or does not answer within the 15 days, then the second one obtains it, and so on following the list of the eligible candidates.
