Short bio

Giancarlo Sangalli (born 1973) is Full Professor of Numerical Analysis at the University of Pavia and Research Associate at CNR-IMATI “E. Magenes”. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics in 2002 from the University of Milan under the supervision of Franco Brezzi.

His research focuses on numerical methods for partial differential equations. He has worked on multiscale numerical methods, domain decomposition, stabilized finite element methods, and isogeometric analysis. His work in isogeometric analysis spans the well-posedness of the method, the construction of unstructured and compatible spaces (isogeometric differential forms), the design of quadrature rules and efficient solvers, and the development of space-time methods.

He has been named a Highly Cited Researcher.

He has coordinated national research projects in Italy, including FIRB and PRIN, as well as European projects funded by the ERC.

He served as Director of the Gruppo Nazionale per il Calcolo Scientifico at INdAM, is a member of the European Academy of Sciences, and serves on the ECCOMAS Computational Applied Mathematics Committee.

He is currently Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Pavia.
